The Iberian lynx is a carnivore endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. It is a medium-sized felid (males weigh an average of 13 kg and females weigh almost 10 kg) with long legs and a short tail. It has a rounded face, with large ears topped by brushes of black hair, and long sideburns. The fur is brownish tones, speckled with black spots.

Habitat: Its typical habitat is the Mediterranean forest, at altitudes between 400 and 1,300 m. except in the Doñana region, where it lives at sea level. It needs good rabbit densities, areas with closed vegetation to rest and reproduce, and a minimum degree of human disturbance.

Diet: It is based almost exclusively on rabbits. Other species follow, such as geese, young or female deer, small mammals and birds.

Although the species has gone from “Critically Endangered” to “Endangered” thanks to the support of administrations and individuals, and the awareness of the population in general, some of the threats to this species still persist, such as destruction and fragmentation of their habitat, the decrease in rabbit populations and road accidents.

Reproduction: The heat takes place in January and February. After about seventy days of gestation, one to four puppies are born, although the most normal thing is for two. The female looks for a sheltered place to give birth: thick patches of vegetation, cliffs, hollow logs, burrows and even old nests of large birds. Although lynxes are solitary animals, during this time of year they usually stay in pairs.

Distribution: The Iberian lynx occupies the southwestern quadrant of the Iberian Peninsula. The size of its population has recovered considerably in recent years, and in 2019 it is estimated at around 830 individuals.

Tips on using the Campark trail camera:

1.PREVIOUSLY RECOGNIZE THE AREA WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO LEAVE THE TRAICAM LOOKING FOR ANIMAL TRACKS AND EXCREMENT.
2. BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU LEAVE THE TRAILCAM (IF YOU LEAVE IT VERY VISIBLE, THE FIRST PERSON WHO SEES IT MAY TAKE IT FROM YOU).
3.TAKE THE SHORTEST TIME TO PLACE THE TRAILCAM (REMEMBER, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, THERE MAY BE SOMEONE WATCHING YOU).

4. TRY NOT TO HANDLE TOO MUCH OR LEAVE TOO MANY ODORS IN THE AREA WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO PLACE THE TRAILCAM.
5.CLEAR OF VEGETATION AND BRANCHES EVERYTHING THAT COULD INFLUENCE THE ACTIVATION SENSOR OF THE PIR SENSITIVITY PF THE PHOTOTRAPPING CAMERA.

6.CAMOUFLAGE THE TRAILCAM WITH THE TYPE OF VEGETATION YOU HAVE IN YOUR AREA.

7.CHOOSE THE PLACEMENT OF THE TRAILCAM. IF YOU WANT TO COVER A LOT OF GROUND, YOU MUST GIVE THE TRAILCAM A HEIGHT OF APPROXIMATELY 1 METER. IF, ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU PREFER TO OBTAIN A PORTRAIT OR A CLOSE-UP IMAGE OF AN ANIMAL, YOU CAN PLACE THE TRAILCAM ON THE GROUND, GIVING IT AN OVERRIDE OF APPROXIMATELY 5-10 DEGREES.

8.HOLD/TIE YOUR TRAILCAM WELL AND TIGHTLY. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SEEMS OBVIOUS BUT SOMETIMES WE FORGET. AS AN EXAMPLE I WOULD LIKE TO CITE PERSONNEL CASES. ON ONE OCCASION A WILD BOAR KNOCKED MY TRAILCAM OVER AND ANOTHER TIME AN OTTER DID THE SAME TO ME. A CLEAR EXAMPLE TO HOLD THE TRAILCAM IS TO USE A STONE AND TIE THE TAPE OVER IT.
USE PHOTO + VIDEO MODE, AND ALWAYS SELECT THE HIGHEST QUALITY IN BOTH MODES. I LIKE THE 30 SECONDS VIDEO LENGHT OPTION.
AND FINALLY VERIFY THE CORRECT OPERATION OF THE TRAILCAM, TAKING A PHOTO OR VIDEO BEFORE RECORDING THE TRAILCAM.
