You have found a solar 4G camera for your cabin, jobsite or empty property. Then you notice a data plan, a cloud storage option and a memory card slot. Do you need all three—and what will you actually pay?

These are separate parts of the setup. Understanding what each one does makes it easier to choose the services you need and avoid paying for storage you do not want.

The short answer: A SIM data plan connects your camera to the cellular network. Cloud storage saves supported recordings online. A microSD card saves recordings inside the camera. For the Campark SC61, cellular service is needed for remote access; paid cloud storage is optional.

Why are 4G camera subscriptions so confusing?

It is a real buying concern. In a discussion about an LTE cloud plan, a shopper assumed that the cloud subscription would also provide the camera's cellular connection. Another buyer seeking temporary home monitoring wanted remote access for a few weeks without committing to a year-long plan.

Both questions start in the same place: what am I paying for, and how long do I need it? Separate connectivity from storage first, then choose a subscription duration.

SIM data = connection

Lets the camera communicate over 4G LTE for remote viewing, alerts and supported online functions.

Cloud = online storage

Keeps uploaded recordings away from the camera, according to the selected storage plan.

microSD = local storage

Keeps recordings on a compatible memory card installed in the camera.

What does a SIM data plan pay for?

A cellular security camera needs its own connection at the installation site. The SIM identifies it on the mobile network; the data plan provides the service used to send information over that network.

That connection lets you check a remote property from your phone even when there is no Wi-Fi router at the property. Your phone still needs internet access too, through its own Wi-Fi or mobile connection.

  • SIM included does not mean ongoing data service is free. The card and the subscription are different things.
  • Your phone plan does not automatically cover the camera. The camera's connection must remain active separately.
  • Solar power does not replace a data plan. The panel helps charge the battery; it does not provide internet access.

The Campark SC61 comes with a pre-installed, non-removable SIM. Use its supported data service rather than purchasing a separate SIM to swap in. Before ordering, confirm service availability for your country and compatible coverage at the exact installation location.

What does cloud storage pay for?

Cloud storage pays for supported recordings to be saved online. On the SC61, optional cloud storage provides off-site backup for motion-triggered videos.

It can be useful when the property is far away or when you want recordings stored somewhere other than the camera itself. If the camera or memory card is taken or damaged, successfully uploaded clips may still be available within the cloud plan's retention period. Footage that never uploaded cannot be recovered from the cloud.

Where can you see cloud storage prices? Check the cloud storage options for your camera in the CloudEye 365 App. Review the current price, recording retention period, device coverage and renewal terms before subscribing. Cloud storage pricing is separate from the SIM data prices shown below.

Buying cloud storage alone does not give an offline camera a cellular connection. It still needs active data service and a usable signal to upload new footage.

Can you use a microSD card instead of cloud storage?

Yes. The SC61 supports a microSD card up to 256GB, sold separately, for local recording without a paid cloud storage subscription.

A memory card replaces the need to pay for cloud storage when local recording meets your needs. It does not replace the cellular data service needed to reach the camera remotely. Writing a clip to a card is different from transmitting video over a mobile network.

What each part does for your SC61
Item Purpose Where to check cost
SIM data plan Cellular connection for remote access and alerts. SC61 product page and current activation offer.
Cloud storage Optional online backup of supported event videos. CloudEye 365 App.
microSD card Local recording inside the camera; up to 256GB. Your memory card purchase. Card not included.

How much does the Campark SC61 data plan cost?

The following USA cellular data plan prices are listed on the SC61 product page. These are connection plans, not cloud storage prices.

SC61 SIM data plans — USD
Plan duration Listed plan price Equivalent per month*
1 month $19.90 $19.90
6 months $99.90 $16.65
1 year $169.90 About $14.16
2 years $259.90 About $10.83

Prices checked October 19, 2026. *Monthly equivalents are calculated by dividing the listed plan price by its duration and rounding to two decimal places; they are not separate monthly billing offers. Check the current product page and subscription terms before payment. Cloud storage, the camera and a memory card are separate purchases.

A longer plan has a lower equivalent monthly cost, but the right choice depends on how long you expect to use the camera. For a short project, compare the one-month option before choosing a longer commitment. Review renewal, cancellation and any pause or reactivation rules in the service terms.

Choose your setup around the property you need to watch

A cabin or chalet: alerts first, live view when needed

A chalet owner looking for a solar 4G camera described this exact pattern: motion alerts most of the time, live view only when necessary, and uncertainty about the right data plan.

Start with active cellular service and decide how you want to keep event recordings. A microSD card is an option if local storage is enough. Add cloud storage if an off-site copy matters to you, after reviewing the App's price and retention terms.

An empty home or temporary jobsite: match the duration to the job

If you only need monitoring during a renovation, move or property sale, compare the total cost for that period. A low monthly equivalent on a long plan may still mean spending more overall than you need for a brief project.

A remote gate or year-round property: plan for ongoing use

For longer-term monitoring, compare the six-month, annual and two-year data options. Then decide separately whether local storage is enough or whether cloud backup is worth the additional cost. If you are adding several cameras, confirm device coverage for each service rather than assuming one subscription covers them all.

What affects how much cellular data a camera uses?

Video transmission matters more than simply having the camera mounted outside. Long live-view sessions, higher video quality, remote retrieval of recordings and cloud uploads can all add to traffic over the camera's connection.

There is no reliable one-size-fits-all GB estimate without knowing the camera settings and your usage. Check the selected plan's allowance or usage policy before subscribing, especially if you plan to watch frequently. A plan duration or price alone does not tell you whether data is unlimited.

  • Use brief live checks when they answer your question.
  • Review motion and notification settings so the setup focuses on activity that matters.
  • Check available usage information after a representative period, including busy days.

Remote access is different from continuous recording. A cellular subscription does not, by itself, turn a solar battery camera into a system that records every second around the clock.

Putting the costs together

With local storage: camera purchase + compatible microSD card + selected cellular data plan.

With cloud storage: camera purchase + selected cellular data plan + optional cloud subscription shown in the App. You can also add a memory card for local storage.

For example, choosing the SC61 one-month data option and local storage means a $19.90 listed cellular service cost for that month, plus the separate camera and card purchases. There is no paid cloud storage fee if you do not subscribe to cloud storage. If you add cloud storage, include its App-displayed price in your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay for both SIM data and cloud storage?

No. For the SC61, cellular data service is needed for remote access. Paid cloud storage is optional; you can use a compatible microSD card for local recording instead.

Does cloud storage include cellular data?

For the SC61, treat them as separate services. The data prices on the product page cover cellular service. Check cloud storage offers separately in CloudEye 365.

Will the camera stay remotely accessible if its data plan expires?

Without active cellular service, do not expect live remote access, new remote alerts or new cloud uploads over 4G. Keeping a cloud storage subscription does not replace the expired connection service.

Can I insert my own phone SIM?

The SC61 uses a pre-installed, non-removable SIM. Select its supported data service instead of buying a replacement phone SIM.

Does a solar 4G camera need Wi-Fi?

The SC61 connects through compatible 4G LTE coverage, so Wi-Fi at the camera location is not required. Solar charging supplies power, while cellular service supplies the connection.
